Build Your Climate Resillience

Partner content for Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve

Understand local risks. Learn from others. Strengthen your ability to respond.

18–19 August 2026 | Gourikwa Coastal Nature Reserve

Drought, wildfire and floods are already affecting farms, businesses, communities and natural landscapes across the Garden Route District Municipality. For landowners and farmers, this means increasing pressure on water, soils, infrastructure and income.

The Resilient Landscapes Forum 2026 brings together local people facing these challenges with those working on ways to prepare and respond. Come and learn what the latest science means for your area, hear how others are preparing, share your own experience and take away practical ideas that you can use on your land or in your business.

You will gain an opportunity to:

  • Understand the climate risks facing the Garden Route District Municipality from international and local experts
  • Explore what these changes mean in practice for your land, business or community
  • Learn from local farmers, landowners and practitioners already responding to drought, fire and floods
  • Hear from scientists, government and disaster-management practitioners about how preparation can reduce exposure and risk
  • Share your own experience and learn from others in the district
  • Identify practical steps you can take to strengthen resilience on your land or in your community
  • Build relationships with people working on these issues across the Garden Route District

The programme includes contributions from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Garden Route District Municipality, Local Municipalities, Fire Protection Associations, the Gouritz and Garden Route Biosphere Reserves, conservation agencies, local NGOs, local landowners and businesses, and experienced practitioners.

Three questions will guide the forum:

What is happening locally? | Who is taking action? | What can we do together?

This is an opportunity to connect with people working on climate resilience across the district, understand what is changing in the Garden Route District and consider what you can do to prepare.
